If I may add what little I know to the original post of running Windows programs under Linux, there are a few possibilities in addition to Wine:
Crossover https://www.codeweavers.com/crossover/
This is a commercial project. Think of it as the Big Brother to Wine
Bottles https://usebottles.com/
Winboat https://www.winboat.app/
Winboat is still in beta, but sounds promising
For myself, I went the virtual machine approach using VirtualBox.
Microsoft is actively trying the force the issue of having a Microsoft account, but at present, there are still ways to get around that.
