The Future
#31
Hello again everyone,

The meeting minutes have been reviewed and approved by the participants and are now attached to this post

For our next meeting, please use this new Doodle poll:
https://doodle.com/group-poll/participate/ejJO8Mze

It would be great to see more of the community join us. This meeting is about establishing the committee; you don't have to be in a position to volunteer for the committee to contribute your thoughts as we get this off the ground

Thanks!

I've been giving some thought to what to call a replacement for forum.powerbasic.com.

It's too early for a poll, I'd like to collect general ideas first.  A couple of general thoughts:
1 . Should it be   .org, not a .com since it will not be a commercial site.

2. The landing page could be more a basic introductory site describing PowerBASIC (and a tribute to Bob Zale?) with the forum linked from the landing page.

3.Possible names:
PBUsers
PBDevs
PBDevelopers
PBCoders
PBForum
PBDevForum
PBCommunityHub
...

Suggestions?

How about dot codes for TLD? We're certainly "..., coding enthusiasts, ...".

Base domain name is sure to raise discussion.

I avoided having a dot com domain with dot info shortly after it was added as a TLD. For a couple years some places would reject my e-mail address as not valid.  Sad

Cheers,

Personally, I wouldn't want to see anything out of the normal.  .org is the most appropriate (and does not come at a price premium - .codes is several times the cost p.a. of .org Smile).

Personally I like PBCommunity.org but it's taken. That "should" make PBCommunityHub.org a reasonable facsimile, but something about it (maybe the length / number of words) strikes me the wrong way.

PBCommunity.net , PBCommunity.info, and PBCommunity.online are available  (in cost order low to high)

PBUsers.org, would be my next choice, but I have always disliked the word "user(s)" as it almost seems derogatory.

Hmm. Registered 25 Jan this year and parked with Namecheap. As was PBCommunity.com at the same time.

Looks like it may be a squatter taking advantage of the demise of PowerBasic?

PBDevelopers
PBCoders
PBUsers

Any of these as .ORG would get my vote.

My preferences are:

PBDevs.net
PBDevs.org
PBCoders.net
PBCoders.org

Although we would be an organization, I think the networking aspect of what we might want to accomplish implies something active and growing vs. something that more passive

IMO, dot net not really applicable. I think anyone can register one (unlike .gov, .mil and .edu) but the original intent was ISPs, hosts and carriers. It (dot com) became so popular because of no verification. Dot net is "open" but intent understood (again I think).

see table:  .ORG vs .COM vs .NET - What do they mean and which is better?

((the price listed in table is at least 2 times what I've seen at other places.))
