Let's face it a 12-13 year old PC (that originally came with Win 7?) with a CPU Passmark rating of about 20% of current i5's, probably has a book value of $0, has more than paid for itself by now and is due for replacement

I have a pile of Dell Optiplex 9010's here, all perfectly functioning machines each with 16GB memory and 500GB SSD's in them yet they don't have this 'TPM'. Is there a way to circumnavigate that issue or am I to be again blackmailed into dumping them and buying new hardware? That's an easy one. Just use RUFUS for creating an bootable USB stick. A comprehensive instruction is here: Using Rufus to Install Windows 11 on Unsupported Hardware. You also can install it without having a Microsoft account, see here. Newer versions of Windows 11 try to block the installation without MS account. But you still can circumvent this by changing the registry, see here. I have successfully installed Win11 on an old hardware, see above. Cheers, Albert RE: How to run PB progs in Linux - Gerald Sutherland - 30.10.2025 If I may add what little I know to the original post of running Windows programs under Linux, there are a few possibilities in addition to Wine: Crossover https://www.codeweavers.com/crossover/ This is a commercial project. Think of it as the Big Brother to Wine Bottles https://usebottles.com/ Winboat https://www.winboat.app/ Winboat is still in beta, but sounds promising For myself, I went the virtual machine approach using VirtualBox. Microsoft is actively trying the force the issue of having a Microsoft account, but at present, there are still ways to get around that. Gerald Sutherland |
